Thumbs down evga wont rma my 5800 ultra

after my card started displaying visual corruption, and trying it in multiple systems, it was diagnosted to having bad leads on the agp connectors...

so... i go to rma through pcclub (the store i bought it at, and currently work at) the rma headquarters say they wont send it because the card has no serial number.

i figured, i will just send it to the manufacturer directly... not the case. after getting of the phone with tech support this morning, turns out im up the creek without a paddle since my card has no serial number, and the box i received it in was nothing more that a cardboard box with a sticker on top.

as for the serial on the card... whether i took it off, someone took it off, or it never had one, i dont know. i cant remember.

it sucks for me because i spent nearly $500 on that card.. and now it is nothing more than a paperweight. Hopefully someone from evga reads this post.

Aha ok
Then the serialnumber should be somewhere in the stores erm what you call em logs?
The things you write down whenever a customer buys something. There's also the product ID and product serial number included with it?
since you work at the store can't you check which 5800's were sold and to whom and then try find which one that was sold to you and then find the serial number there?

Have you posted about this on eVGA's forums? That would be your best shot at someone from that company reading your dilemma.

true.

even if you had to buy an nvidia card, why the hell a 5800!?

I think here in the UK, anyone trying to pull that "serial number" crap would quickly find themselves in court for violating statutory rights.

Please, there are defects in every brand card.

And the 5800 is a great deal. It gives similar performance to the 5900, but costs $150 less. ($230-$260)... Only downfall is the turbine fan which can be irritating if your PC is close to where you work. I actually tried one out and that was my primary reason for returning it - the 5900 that replaced it wasn't noticably faster in any of my games. (though I admit I only run at 1024x768x32 with QC AA and 2x ansio).

I had a 5800U but sold it. Yes using only a little AA/AF at 1024 it run great.
The biggest reason I sold mine is I'm a big screensaver fan and my Ultra had the screensaver fan problem.

Jak... sorry to hear this. That really suxs a big one man.
I know what u mean. I gave 460 for my ultra.
I hope u find your SN. Did it fall off the card or something?

Hm, that is a weird situation, since they were all made by FlexTronics you would think that if nvidia decided to put a serial number on them, ALL of them would have em. And if nvidia didnt tell flextronics to put a serial on them, then NONE of them have a serial and evga should know that.

What i would do is this

Phase 1

Shoot off E-mails to evga and nvidia and post rampintly on evga.com forum.

Phase 2

Call Evga and Nvidia and dial random extentions untill you find someone high up and complain

Phase 3

Drive to Nvidias HQ and run around their offices screaming insanely untill they give you a new videa card!
