Default Re: Device not found error

In Xorg log file, I see
Quote:
...
(--) PCI:*(0:0:2:0) 8086:0116:1025:0507 Intel Corporation rev 9, ...
(--) PCI: (0:1:0:0) 10de:0df4:1025:0507 nVidia Corporation rev 161, ...
...
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 00@00:02:0
(EE) No devices detected.
...
which suggests your primary device is the Intel device. I'm wondering if NVIDIA Optimus technology is the issue.

Do you have NVIDIA Optimus? Have you tried disabling it in your BIOS? If you have Optimus but can't disable it (or want to use it), try using Bumblebee.

I have a similar problem with a GT 540M. This is on a Dell XPS15 with Optimus running bumblebee. The driver version is 275.19 which claims to have added support for the GT 540M. These are the messages I get in /var/log/messages when running the command 'optirun glxgears'

The driver appears to be detecting the device and the PCI bus ID matches that listed in Appendix A of the documentation but it still claims the device is unsupported. I don't know if this is a problem with the nvidia driver, bumblebee or how the two interact and I can't test the nvidia driver by itself as the BIOS does not give me the option of disabling the intel graphics and just using the nvidia.

Default Re: Device not found error

Truly bizarre. (I think one can assume that the support added to 275.19 was not just detecting that it did not support the GT 540M!) Was there anything strange in the /var/log/nvidia-installer.log that was created during Bumblebee installation?

I can only suggest posting all relevant logs with as much verbosity under a new thread with a catchy title like
Quote:
/var/log/messages: "The NVIDIA GPU ... 0df4 [GeForce GT 540M] ... is not supported by the 275.19 NVIDIA Linux graphics driver release"
to attract some expert opinion...
