I've got an Intel Xeon system with a Quadro 5000 card running a fresh install of RHEL5 x86_64 using Nvidia driver 275.09.07. I'm having problems with X windows frequently freezing/crashing.
I can get it to crash reliably under a number of circumstances: 1. quickly scrolling up or down while in the system log viewer, 2. trying to open the OpenGL/GLX menu under the Nvidia control panel, and 3. running glxinfo. When it freezes, I can ssh onto the machine, and it shows the CPU with Xorg at 100%. I think this may be a driver issue because I don't have these problems if I run using the vesa driver. I've tried a number of different versions of the Nvidia driver and seem to have this issue with all of them. I've tried all the suggestions from this forum and from the Red Hat support site, and nothing has helped. Am at a loss for what to try next. Any suggestions? Thanks. System info: Intel Xeon Red Hat EL 5 64-bit kernel: 2.6.18-238.el5 Xorg version: 1.1.1-48.76.el5_5.2 Nvidia drivers tried: 275.09.07, 270.41.19_v1, 260, el repo kmod-nvidia with nvidia-x11-drv |
