Sata support is done via the native kernel driver found in the linux kernel. So unless you want to backport the driver to that really really really old kernel you are SOL.

Hello,
thank you for your support. We need to use Red Hat 4 and 2.6.9-100.EL.x86_64 is the most recent kernel it provides up to now. The sata_nv driver that cames with that kernel is not compatible with the nForce 980a SLI chip set. I could not find sata_nv driver compatible with nForce 980a SLI chip set. Where can I find sata_nv driver compatible with nForce 980a SLI chip set? Thanks in advance. |

a) backport the driver from newer kernels or b) upgrade to a newer kernel (yes I know they do not offer a newer one for RH 4) c) upgrade to a newer version of RH or switch distros |

Hello,
Thank you again for your interest. There must be something that I did not explain correctly. I downloaded NFORCE-Linux-x86-1.25.zip drivers from: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.25.html I can see this drivers are compatible with: nForce4 430 nForce4 410 nForce4 AMD X16 nForce4 Intel X16 nForce4 SLI - Intel nForce4 SLI - AMD nForce4 Ultra - AMD nForce4 - AMD nForce3 Pro 250 nForce3 Pro nForce3 250 nForce3 250Gb nForce3 nForce2-S nForce2 nForce In fact, this drivers are included in the Linux kernel I am using and seems to be not compatible with the SATA controller installed in my motherboard (nForce 980a LSI chipset): The kernel can not find the SATA hard disks installed in the system. So, my questions are: * Are these drivers compatible with nForce 980a LSI chipset. * I they are not compatible, there are Linux drivers for nForce 980a LSI chipset? * If this is the case, where can I find the source code? Sorry for the misunderstanding. Best regards Guillermo |

Hi Deanjo,
Thank you very much for your support. Is it planned to release these drivers for RH update 8? Is it planned to release these drivers source code to compile with old kernels? We really can not move to newer kernel ! Best regards Guillermo |

No, there is no plans at all. If there is a planned update Redhat would have to backport the driver. Keep in mind that Redhat 4 came out 5 years before the 980a even came out. RH4 was already in maintenance mode only (no new features, just security updates) and all support completely expires in 2012 which means no support at all including security updates. |

Hi,
Deanjo, thak you for your support. I copied the "sata_nv.c" file from kernel source release 2.6.39.3 and I have tried to compile it using a Make file as follows: obj-m := sata_nv.o Then I executed make -C /usr/src/kernels/2.6.9-100.EL-smp-x86_64 SUBDIRS=$PWD modules I had tons of errors. Is it possible to do what I am trying to do? Best regards Guillermo |
