Default Trouble booting and waking up from sleep

Wasn't sure which section to put this in as I'm not sure which component is giving me problems...but here we go. Specs are in sig. This is on Windows 7 x64.

So in the past week, I noticed whenever I put my computer into sleep mode, when trying to wake it up, the display would go on but be black, and my keyboard would either not light up, or take a good full minute to light back up. Now, the computer won't even fully awaken from sleep mode. Also, when booting up, sometimes the screen will stay black for a good minute for it finally POSTs, and sometimes it will go black again going into windows.

I must admit I'm not so active on these boards or with my PC as much anymore, so where should I go about troubleshooting?

Thanks.

Which sleep more do you use? Did you enable hybrid sleep?
How sure are you of your electrical grid?

If you reboot the PC, does it wake up correctly? (this would mean hybrid sleep is ON).

A good first step if testing memory using memtest86. Then stress test motherboard/proc.

AFAIK, hybrid sleep isn't enabled. Where do I find this, is it in the BIOS? (I don't see it on the power options in control panel).

And by electrical grid, do you mean my outlet and surge strip(s)? Everything seems okay, this problem really started occurring out of nowhere.

I'll have to check on the reboot thing, but I think hybrid is off because if I recall correctly, I had to shut the power supply switch off, wait a second, then try booting before it was successful.

I will run memtest today. Thank you for your help/reply.

BIOS has not been reset or updated. Not sure on the ACPI, just tried booting up and now it won't even POST. All the mobo lights are on, fans spin up. My keyboard and mouse (USB) don't light up. Gonna try to reseat everything and check connections and clear CMOS tomorrow, have to leave for work. Bleh.

last time I had that happen, excactly how you describled it was a bad capacitor near DIMM slots. after playing with ram, I noticed that PC only worked with third DIMM slot from CPU populated, it RAM was in any other slot it didn't work.

Conclusion: could be memory related, try with single memory stick, in different DIMM slots, if still problem, try with different memory stick etc..

Damn, tried RAM in all the different slots, different sticks, no luck. Possible mobo or power supply issue?

Are you running RAID? My PC wouldn't wake properly with my RAID array. Sometimes it would, mostly it wouldn't.
I never found a fix, I eventually upgraded to SSD RAID and my cold boot times are only 10-20 secs anyway.

Do you really need sleep? In my experience shutting down is probably the best option, unless you want the speed of sleep.

If you have excluded RAM, then PSU and motherboard are definitely possible causes. I'd also try it booting with and without SATA and IDE devices. It can be a pain, especially if the problem is intermittent. ::

Have been busy with work, about to go test a power supply from another computer. I hope it's a PSU issue, ive gone through probably 3-4 motherboards on this build, and that definitely is fishy. Maybe it's been the problem all along.

EDIT: BIOS loaded with the other power supply in. Now to newegg for an affordable, decent PSU.
