It's not the best idea. Some of the computers at my university's library were upgraded to windows 7 from xp and they were largely single core P4s with 1 GB of ram. Once you logged in it would take about 10 minutes to get to the desktop and the ram was 99% used. I could barely launch microsoft office word. I think the ideal minimum requirements should be a dual core processor and 2 GB of ram.

The 1GB of RAM will kill it.
Slap 3GB+ in there and so long as it is ultra basic usage like word processing and e-mail, it'd run okay. Built a rig using an old AXP 2800+ w/ 4GB of DDR400 for my little sister. Got a fast 250GB HDD and Win7 Ult. x32... runs pretty well for basic stuff. ![]() |

I wouldn't even run XP with 1GB of RAM.
