SSH is by far the best part of Linux. It's so powerful and so easy to use. I use to never understand why people used Macs either, until I used OSX with its built-in X11 and SSH.

It's so nice if you do remote calculations all day like I do. SSH beats any other remote software out there and Bash is the best way to navigate files and folders.

OpenSSH has come a long way on Windows, but I still prefer WinSSHd. It's flipping fantastic.

If I am on Windows, I use Cygwin. For Windows X11 servers, I have X-Win32 (licensed through my campus). But you can get Cygwin/X for free as well.

I like Cygwin, but I find that I run into some conflicts if I'm trying to run some COTS applications that have Apache built in. Cold Fusion is an example. WinSSHd doesn't rely on Cygwin like OpenSSH does. I'd probably run Cygwin more for SSH if I wasn't such a consistency freak.

I worked 2 years as a student tech, one year full time, and have been a Systems Administrator since 2008. Well, that's the title anyways.

I do numerical computation and like messing with different OS's, so it's only natural I picked up Linux along the way. I actually started using Linux in high school. The old Quake 3 engine ran better on Linux than Windows. Those were the days...

You got that right. I remember having several computers set up and me and my nephew had Quake3 tourny's every week. I miss those days...
