Default Quality of games coming this holiday season

Looking at all the game previews lately I'm really impressed with the direction and focus developers are now taking on games...

I remember a few years ago, developer discussions mostly focused on how great the graphics were going to be on new releases. Lots of AA/AF comparisons, cool shading effects, bigger textures, more graphic detail, close ups of character faces ...etc, but little time was spend on discussing great game play, character development or story. Not so lately, in Skyrim, Rage ...etc there is hardly any mention of graphics, all they talk about is the story, the game play and the characters, awesome!

It feels like there is finally a shift away from making these big "tech demo" games and more toward rewarding game experiences. I think everyone is pretty happy with the quality of graphics now, enabling developers to spend more of their energy elsewhere. For the first time in years I'm actually excited about the batch of games coming out this half of the year, I just hope they live up to most of the hype I'm seeing...

For those that may have missed some of the trailers:
Skyrim
Rage

I don't know about you but i care about both gameplay/story and graphics...The thing is that although technology advances every year graphics are not equally advanced and that's bad....

I've been really impressed with the work they've put into animations recently. The dragons in skyrim are just awesome.

I'm more concerned with the cost than the quality.

Rage and Skyrim look fantastic so far, but that's $120USD alone. Toss Dead Island on top of that and there's the cost of the 2500k I want.

I want both the graphics and the gameplay to be top notch, but if I'm paying that much for a game I also want some potential for re-playability. If it only interests me for a single play through I'll feel cheated.

This...and making 6 hour long campaigns with console visuals and only singleplayer isn't the answer.

Or game on a budget by enjoying Steam sales and other special offers in less than 6 months.
It will cost you your 2500k only if you pre-order or get it on day one. Buy within 3 months while keeping you eyes open for the sale, and you'll pay less than half that for a game already patched...

That's what I've been doing lately. DS2 is the last game I paid $60 for. Fortunately it was worth it, but sales only are where it's at for me now. That and Steam usually puts a good sale up pretty quickly.

Although it doesn't come out until 2012 prey 2's trailer really surprised me it looks to be shaping up to be a promising game.
