Not even close. Game play is similar to Fallout, but with vehicles. Combat so far seems similar too, only some enemies in Rage make use of cover more, so far anyway.

Carmack did say in his quakcon keynote speach that the best way to invoke texture popping is to go into a corner and turn around real quick. Sounded like you won't see that kind of popping during normal play though.

But you do. Got three mutants running after you and you have to turn fast to fight the one tearing you a new one, your confronted with a mutant and an even uglier backdrop. Very unnerving. Destroys the immersion tenfold.

This is the most blatant example of a made for consoles game yet.

Honestly I don't think its a console-port problem here. I think its a new tech issue with megatexture, a failed experiment pretty much.

Is that because you cannot twist around fast on a joypad so it cover the texture streaming issues up?

Well these games are mostly ports, so yeah, it's just a slightly beefed up Xbox360 game. Take Deus EX HR, you may as well get your joypad out and play it like that on the PC.
