So anyone know of any games that can be installed to a USB Drive and still work on multiple PCs? Basically, it gets slow at work and well I have been thinking maybe bring some entertainment to work with me.
![]() I know of a few portable ones from portableapps.com, just want to see other options if possible. Fallout 1/2 work fine from GOG as an example. |

Many games would probably work, but the only problem is missing registry entries and files outside of the game directories. The game will either lose all settings/saves (likely), or not work at all.
Try it and see, curious about which games will work with portability. |

Many older games work without a problem, just have to try it. I had a dedicated HDD just for games and it survived several OS reinstalls.

I don't game at work, but I've done this with a few games recently on friends computers... Quake 3, Total Annihilation, Heroes of Might and Magic III (if you want to still be at work come sun up for the next day).

Registry entries is half of it, any work pc with a half descent admin is going have have write and run permissions locked down too. Anything like that going on?
I find that if you are looking for entertainment at work, bring your own. laptop, netbook, ipad, ipod.

Yup, Can't install anything on my workstation. I got DosBox working on a thumb drive and thats working fine. I also got Fallout 1/2 working but they are lagy as hell in a window. Older Maxis games don't work though, Sim City and Sim Tower require files to be installed in the c:\windows dir and wont run without the files.

A lot of newer games should work too. They would take up a decent amount of space but Call of Duty 2, Unreal tournament, even BF2 should work. |

I bet Terraria would work. It's only about 30 MB.
![]() EDIT: I am not sure if it requires a Steam connection or not. If it does, then obviously it won't work. |
