Default Freeze when closing a Firefox tab with Flash video

Sometimes, when I close a Firefox tab which has a flash video in it, the system will freeze. I have enabled vdpau in flash using an entry in /etc/adobe/mms.cfg. The mouse would continue to move and I am able to ssh to the machine, but otherwise the system becomes unresponsive - it is not possible to kill processes via ssh for instance.

I am attaching nvidia-bug-report.log.gz. This is on Fedora 15 x86_64, Flash 10.3 (nspluginwrapper) or 11.0 beta (native), 485M card and 275.21 nvidia drivers. Please let me know if other information is needed, or whether it is possible to recover from the lockup without rebooting the machine (issuing reboot via ssh still works, but with some delay).

280.xx drivers seem to fix this problem (at least for me).

Where did you get a 280.xx driver?

this also happens with Opera 11.5 and NVidia 280.13. Does not happen with 270.41

The reason you need the /etc/adobe/mms.cfg file to enable vdpau in flash is because it is horribly broken and unusable and Adobe has deliberately disabled it until they fix the issue. It will take down xorg every time. This is not an nvidia issue. This is an Adobe bug.

User X11 applications cannot/shouldn't/aren't allowed to bring down X server even theoretically. It cannot be a Flash bug by definition.

It gets stuck in a loop, it doesn't crash. Amazing that all the other apps that use vdpau don't force x into an infinite loop.

Besides mind the sheer number of NVIDIA specific errors (from dmesg and xorg.log):
The difference between theory and praxis is, that in theory, there is no difference between theory and praxis.

I also experienced this bug, it must've been introduced in some latest 10.3 flashplayer update.

I installed Flashplayer beta 11 and this bug ( and the other flash bug where windows shine through ) seems to be gone. Lets see what does not work NOW.

I have this (albeit a slightly different - X.org server hangs randomly after watching several youtube videos with HW acceleration enabled) problem with Adobe Flash 11.
