Default BUG in _nv026629rm while starting X on kernel 2.6.35

I cannot start X with the nvidia driver on Ubuntu maverick amd64 with kernel 2.6.35; it always results in a kernel oops. I see the same oops when booting into lucidís kernel 2.6.32 with some probability, but at least on that kernel it usually works fine.

This happens with several nvidia versions (256.35, 256.44, 256.52, 256.53, 260.19.06). The attached nvidia-bug-report.log.gz was captured with 260.19.06 after the oops. The nvidia module was loaded with NVreg_ResmanDebugLevel=0 in case that helps.

What make/model notebooks are you using?

Were you able to use older driver releases on this notebook?

Yes, I used the nvidia drivers for years; this problem only started showing up in Maverick.

nvidia-current 256.53-0ubuntu3 works on Lucidís kernel 2.6.32-25-generic, but crashes Maverickís kernel 2.6.35-22-generic (it doesnít compile on Nattyís kernel 2.6.37-4-generic). But nvidia-current 260.19.21-0ubuntu1~xup crashes all three kernels.

Hmm, correction: 260.19.21 *sometimes* works on kernel 2.6.32-25-generic; it just takes several tries to get it to start up without crashing with the same oops.

Please let me know if there’s other useful data I can provide.

I am also experiencing this problem. I'm on an ZOTAC IONITX-A-U mobo with a dual core Intel Atom CPU and NVIDIA ION chipset. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, here's uname -a:

Linux terminus 2.6.35-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 2 02:41:37 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm using nvidia module 260.19.06 and experience the same kernel oops. I've attached nvidia-bug-report.log.gz. Let me know if I can supply any further information.

Did anyone get a resolution on this issue? My nvidia modules have been crashing in a very similar way during X startup for several weeks now, and I've had to fallback to the nouveau drivers.

I am on Debian Sid, kernel 2.6.38.2 and drivers 260.19.44, hardware is a P5K motherboard and G80 card.

Is anyone not on Debian or Ubuntu seeing this?
