Default Don't know which SSD to get for my new build...

New build so far consists of:

Intel Core i7-2600K
COOLER MASTER V8
ASRock Z68 PROFESSIONAL GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB)(PC3 12800) F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL
COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942

I'm looking at the OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB right now but every drive I read good and bad reviews that are so varying?? I want a 120 GB for OS and a few games and apps. I have a home server for storage. What is the main problem with SSD's not being happy? Firmware?

OCZ Vetrex is about the best value for money that they're very fast. I think it's more to do with if you fill them up too much, the performance degraded.

Well that stinks since I would probably go to at least 80% full on this size for sure.
Considering just going with a nice WD black drive I know won't give me a headache

It will be still way faster than a HDD. SSD's are worth it for their speed alone and you shouldn't defragment a SSD.

Yeah, probably go with a crucial drive since they seem to have the best reviews.

Unless you do video encoding or graphic work the 2600k is a waste. Going with a 2500k will save you $100.

Also, if you are going to run a straight SSD, you might be able to save alittle by going with a P67 motherboard.

16GB of memory is also complete overkill, 8GB is perfectly fine in my opinion.

Just offering some suggestions since you mentioned money is an issue.

Thanks for the thoughts, but yeah I know I'm going overboard on a lot of stuff.

With that motherboard and processor you could have used the Intel Smart Response (ISR)and all you would have needed to get was a smaller SSD ...IMO

Doing some reading on SRT here, and it seems I'm going to better performance with my dedicated SSD. It's more geared towards SDD + HDD setups.
