i've been running the g500 (second revision with 2 thumb buttons) as my gaming mouse.

From what ive seen, wireless shouldn't be a problem for gaming, but you are going to need to put down some serious coin for again, something like one of Logitech gaming wireless mice. If you run an extraordinarily clean workbench then it may be ideal for you to make the switch, but otherwise cutting the cord may not be worth the hassle of batteries if you happen to be on the computer for many hours of the day.

well the G9x and G500 have been put into use since this morning and I knew right away the G9x was not going to jive with my hand and after a couple of hours, my hand had started to cramp up from the unorthodox grip. I tried both the different sleeves and neither were comfortable.

The G500 on the other hand..or rather the same hand, was instantly familiar and just as comfortable as the MX500 and 518. There was this instant sigh of relief when I grabbed it. Hello old friend!

so I'll be using this the rest of the day and the G700 should get put into use tomorrow.

The cursor and clicking/scrolling of the G500 and 9x though feel exactly the same. From what I've read, the 9x is, at its core the G500 with a different body shell.

I use the same mouse and couldn't be happier with it's performance, especially when gaming. I love trackball mice for FPS games. As far as batteries, I'm on the original Duracell I put in the M570 4 months ago and my MX-1100 is at a year+ on it's batteries, it was part of a keyboard combo (got to love the unifying receivers) and used at minimum 4 hrs/day but has been with the laptop since I bought my M570 which gets the same minimum use/day.

Alkaline batteries (they don't die suddenly either) have always outlasted rechargeable (even Li-Ion) batteries for me by a long shot, never got good life out of the mice with the rechargeable batteries/docks.

My only wish for the M570 is that it had the 4-way wheel like my laptop mouse, the MX-1100, has to make side to side scrolling in web pages, Word, Photoshop, etc., a breeze.

+1 loving the Mamba.

I suggest breaking your hand and having a Mamba put into your broken fingers when they make your cast. That way, when your hand heals, you'll be fixed, and you'll have an incredible mouse that can be wired or wireless.

Awesome! Sounds easy enough.

Looks like the G500 gets the nod. I tried em all and it just feels the best in the hand, all the extra button placement is accessible but I never hit any of them by mistake so they're out of the way enough to go unnoticed unless I specifically reach for one, the price is good and although I didn't feel a lot of difference with no weights in it vs all the heavy weights, I guess it's nice that I have that option.

So that's that!
