Default Powermizer level switching lag

Hello!

I searched in the forums and google and couldnt find solution to my problem...

I`m trying to use Compiz 0.8.6 on my Ubuntu 11.04, but i have some performance issues. When i set my PowerMizer Mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance", effects work great. No lagging, no choppy animations. The only downside of it is that my video card works in the highest performance level all the time, and i dont really want it.

When i set my Performance level to Adaptive, it sits at the level 0 all the time, until i start using some compiz effects, that switch the Performance level to highest (level 2 in my case). But this performance switch really lags, it doesnt change right away when needed, but only after some time, which results in poor Compiz performance, choppy effects until my videocard decides that it is time to start working at full power.

So my question is: is there a way to make my videocard react faster? Minimize the performance level switch time, so that it changes to Maximum the moment i start using Compiz effects?

Distro: Ubuntu 11.04
Videocard: 8600M GT
Driver: 280.13
Notebook: Acer Aspire 7720g

It happens even on older chipsets, like mine 9800GT.
I don't know if it is an hw limitation or a software problem, i ended up in tweaking the memory clock for the lower performance mode to an acceptable level.
I know, unfortunately this can't be done on 440 right now.
