Default Looking into getting an old school space sim

I ve been looking to play an old school space sim and I ve got in narrowed down to a few

Freelancer
Freespace 2
Descent 3

I m looking for a space sim where I could just pick a planet or location and go right from the start of the game. Something with more of an open world setting.

Probably Freelancer.

Freespace 2 is great fun but doesn't seem to fit the bill for what you're looking for but if you
haven't played it you should. I liked Starlancer too.

There's always the X series but it is way more complicated than those.
I have them but can not get into them right now because of the complexity. I only have so much time.

There's always Derek Smart's Desktop Commander.

Freelancer is definitely the game for you. Play the campaign and then after that download the discovery mod and you're good to go.

Hmmm, i can't seem to find freelancer available to download.

However a title called DarkStar One is and it seems a lot like freelancer with similar strong reviews.

Apparently there was an xbox 360 game released last year with the DarkStar name with space combat and everything. I guess the genre is still alive..

Darkstar One on PC is a pretty good game. You might consider that.

I brought darkstar one. Definitely not what I m used to, as I ve never played a flying game before.
But I like it. Going to spend some time later tonight trying to break through the learning curve.
