I know the 2500K does not have hyperthreading but in games is there a $100 difference aas for as performance.

So it is best to put it in a better motherboard.

If you can break the bank a bit id say go for the 2600k it will give you a few extra points in performance in certain areas with the 4 cores / 8 threads. If your on a budget id say stick with the I5 2500K it will give you solid gaming performance. they both have good O/C performance too i have my I7 2600k sitting at 4.5ghz.

For gaming, there is very little to gain from the 100MHz and hyperthreading. For video compression and other highly threaded workload, the 2600k gives a boost. Probably not worth the $100 though.
Both overclock very well.

Some game report better, smoother performance with HT disabled anyway.

Only reason I went with 2600k was because it only cost me about $30 more than the 2500k would have cost.

Note that the IB processor behaves as well if not better than the SB-E in those benchs, for probably 30% of the price, so not a great upgrade for SB, but still quite a nice value. There is no real competition on processors lately, so expect stagnation and stable prices.
