Default High Nvidia temperature in Linux

Hello, I have one problem with nvidia under Linux. In Windows and I test Ubuntu 10.04 - there is temperature about 38-42C, but in ubuntu 10.10 and high or any other distribution (Im test PCLinuxOS, Debian unstable - without compiz and LinuxMint 11) is temperature about 42-46C.

Where can be problem?
Sorry for my english

Are you sure you are using NVIDIA proprietary drivers? I'm asking 'cause if you are using nouveau, then it's quite obvious since this open source driver doesn't support any kind of power management.

If the answer is Yes, then please show us `nvidia-smi -a` output (preferably in [ code ] tag).

Wau, its interesting ... I'm turn PC now and temperature in idle is 38C - now its ok. But before its the some programs, header etc..

Why there isn't GPU utilization and frequence?

Dear Guys,
I do seem to have this same problem. I have a VAIO laptop (VPCF1) that comes equipped with Nvidia Geforce 425m.
When I'm working under windows, and with my everyday tasks (Eclipse IDE, Komodo, Outlook, Office Programs, Windows Media Player..), the GPU temperature reaches a maximum of 56 C.

Under Fedora 16, and when using the latest Nvidia drivers (version 295 Beta. 290 drivers were producing the same results btw), it's sometimes stabilized at 54 degrees, when all of a sudden I hear fan speed increases, and the GPU temperature reaches 67 degrees. This continues to be the case for around 15 minutes, till finally everything gets back to normal with 54 degrees. May I also note that I'm using PowerMizer in Adaptive mode.

I'm using Gnome 3 under Fedora 16 btw. Could you guys please tell me what's going on? This is my current result for nvidia-smi:

Hmmm... My temperature is 47-50 at home. It's normal. At work mine is at 60 and I know the reason: the cooler is dying. So what's your problem then? It's a normal temp, bro

this problem have more and more people who use gnome3, kde, ... Nvidia have bad drivers, because there isnt "optimilization" for linux desktop efect. I found one solution - sell nvidia and use Intel graphics or test it with AMD!

Some of these posts crack me up.

You're complaining that the temp is 46C? What exactly is the problem there? We can conclude from your 46 degrees that nvidia has bad drivers?
