I know last week, they updated the exe file to prevent people from doing it but literally the next day, they had a work around on the forums that keeps the steam stuff legit but does something to the file AFTER you launch the game.

If you go to the bethesda forums, you should find it. With any luck though, whatever this official patch coming up any time now does, hopefully it puts the exe file back the way it was or just does us all a favor and allows LAA.

I had copied my original EXE file to the desktop before I tweaked it in my skyrim folder and just copied the original exe back into the game directory to overwrite the patched exe. re-enabled LAA and everything worked fine. Even runs via steam.

Thanks for posting this. I was unaware of how to get ambient occlusion to work. I'm going to try the ugrids tweak too since it seems the perf hit is not that bad. I figured it would be more impacting so with a single card I haven't bothered yet.

So far my vote for these tweaks is a big

It's weird, I don't lose any FPS but... while the tweaks make the game look better I get instant input lag when they're applied.

Wow I tested Ambient Occlusion and I'm taking as much as a 30fps hit at the high quality setting, which is to say it cuts my frame rate in half at times. Using the performance setting the 30fps hit is reduced to 10fps, but that's still a lot. That's with in-game Ultra and no mods. It also adds a ton of shadow shimmering to bushes and other vegitation, and at times turns the grass black, so I don't think I will be using it.

The uGrids tweak works great though, with very little perf hit. uGrids 7 works fine without the LAA tweak.

I wonder if it's because it's trying to be forced through the control panel vs a legit GAME setting? Like trying to make the game engine do something it wasn't coded to do efficiently?

SSAO made a HUGE impact on the visuals of crysis and messing with the settings showed just how cool it made the vegetation self shading look.

Probably. And it still makes a huge impact in Skyrim, even with the drawbacks I can't play without it. I read somewhere that they were adding in a setting for it in the next Nvidia drivers that will make it run and look better.

I used Oblivion's SSAO profile. It looks nice in High Quality and isn't overdone like Fallout 3's profile, which kills performance anyway.
