We're still trying to track down a notebook affected by this issue in order to gather more details on the VBIOS loading error. Please refer to this other thread for updates when they happen:

I still don't understand the rationale for having a driver support Optimus-era GPUs yet not support the configuration common to 99% of their users. Why not give GeForce Optimus the same muxless BIOS switch blessings as Quadro Optimus?
It also stumps me how Nvidia could offer 6 different variants of the 555M yet even the gimped ones get the 555M label. Same goes for the 560M. I'm also perplexed as to why Nvidia has nothing to say about Nouveau or Bumblebee yet has openly embraced work to fix the Xserver so a real Optimus driver for Linux is possible. |

Err. I stand corrected. I'm pretty sure notebooks like the T520/W520 have a mux.

However, here it seems there's another problem as well, that the nvidia driver doesn't yet support the 555M. Once it does, like I said, look into Bumblebee or Ironhide. |

So when the driver comes out , there is no option to disable the intel HD3000 and go on only with the gt555m ? That is blah ...

UVV, presianbg, can you guys please generate an nvidia-bug-report.log captures against the latest 295 release after having failed to start the offscreen X server on the NVIDIA GPU and attach it here?

nouveau users, please test the patch at https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project...omment-3285349 and report back. If the ROM is still not detected via ACPI, please mention your laptop model and post your DSDT and SSDT tables as described on http://linux-hybrid-graphics.blogspot.com/
