SuSE 8.2 Linux SMP kernal
I'm having several dificultys with SuSE 8.2 on my dual AMD athlon MPs 1800+. The main problem is my kernal source files /src/linux they are not the SMP versions. The secound part to this problem is when I run Nvidia installer. I goto install it and it says "No precompiled Kernal interface". I have a GeForce3 Ti200. In my previous SuSE installation before my hdd crash I had no problems with the Nvidia installer.

You appear to be compiling the NVIDIA kernel module with

are cases where this can lead to unexpected behaviour and
If you know what you are doing and want to override this

In any other case, set the CC environment variable to the
name of the compiler that was used to compile the kernel.

I'm running dual 2200+ MP on suse 8.2 and I'm having some problems as well. check out this link from suse's website for installing nvidia drivers. Don't do the YOU installation method as I have not found that it actually works.
I just got the 4496 version installed. Although I think 43.63 has a little bit higher frame rate with glxgears. with the 4496 version you should do:
@> export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=yes
Then don't forget to change the Driver line in the X config file from nv to nvidia. Would you mind posting your glxgears frame rate on here once you get it working? I'm gettin 2100fps now but I think for my system that could be a bit low, since i'm running all my hard drives off a promice ata PCI controller. Thanks in advance
