I know this seems really dumb, but SuSE has updated my kernel (through Yast Online Update) and hasn't supplied me with the kernel sources...therefore I cannot 'install' the module, it says, after compiling.
I have tried doing it by hand and I get the message about gnu/tainting the kernel. I presume something is majorly wrong, because when I select it in the SaX2 setup, it only managed a 1400*1200 resolution (or something like that) and if I try to switch to any consoles they are just flashing blocks of colour (like when you pressed the break button on your spectrum ). It doesn't really help, as I can't even switch to the console and sun SaX again and I certainly cannot un-install the driver........I will try and get the updated sources from SuSE, but from what I can see, they are not on the ftp site. The nv drivers I am running at the moment seem to cause slight screen corruption round the edge of the screen when moving a window near them, although they manage the full 1600*1200. It is possible to solve this problem? |

SuSE also provide an updated source package on their ftp server. I can't help you with YOU (since I don't use it myself) but I guess you could download the source rpm and install it manually with "rpm -Uvh kernel-source.rpm" or so if you can't make YOU download and install it.
As for the "tainted kernel" message: You can ignore it. Newer kernels will give that message anytime a kernel module is loaded that does not identify itself as being distributed under an open source license. The message has political reasons rather than technical ones. |
