Default Do Sandy Bridge-E CPUs support PCIe 3.0?

X79 chipset motherboards are PCIe 3.0 ready but does that mean only till you put an Ivy Bridge-E CPU in there (when they are released) or do current Sandy Bridge-E CPUs also support PCIe 3.0? I'm asking because Sandy Bridge does not support PCIe 3.0 and Sandy Bridge-E is based off of Sandy Bridge.

no. current snb-e chips do not support pci-e 3.0. the pci-e 3.0 support comes in future snb-e cpu's.

But since there are no cards around to test it in a real world environment, Intel doesn't officially support 3.0. But the hardware theoretically.

Would have been a horrible release otherwise. Intel had to cut most of the planned features for the desktop version of SNB-E but they at least keep the PCIe 3.0 compatibility.

They changed the wording recently on this one. They now don't name it PCIe 3.0 officially anymore, but they're still theoretically able to do it. But it's not fully tested with customer cards.

There are facts.
like I said, that's chipset support. Read any review, the cpu's don't support it yet. It's the same situation as later sandy bridge mb's. mb support, no cpu support yet. The pci-e 3.0 support comes in future snb-e cpu's due out next year in 8 core form. Even the mb manufactuer's are stating it in their specs.

so at least AMD gamers will have something to use their 7970's on until NV comes out with their stuff.
