I just installed the game and had a little frag match with some bots. All I can say is WOW! It builds perfectly on the UT legacy, and should be excellent fun at LAN Parties.

It ran completely smooth on my rig at 1024x768 with effects turned up, which is a very good thing. This game will definitely be on my Christmas wish-list this year.

What UT legacy? Hasn't there only been one other game? or have I missed something somewhere?

I would contend that UT itself is a legacy, but maybe that's just me.

No..you are not the only one that thinks that.

leg·a·cy

1. Something handed down from an ancestor or a predecessor or from the past.
2. Money or property bequeathed to another by will.

I would say that UT has given much to the making of UT2K3...and I, for one, think it rocks.

The original Unreal itself IS the legacy, and will always be to me THE first-person shooter that changed the market forever. I simply cannot wait for Unreal 2. It's going to be one fantastic game, better overall than Doom 3 I believe it will be. Just the Unreal universe as created by Epic and Digital Extremes is vastly superior to any other FPS game. At least, that's my opinion. The dark, gothic-like kind of worlds id Software insists on always creating just isn't my thing. I prefer lush environments, spacey and electronic tunes, atmospheric worlds, all the great aspects that the Unreal universe has given us the opportunity to explore.

Well even IF Doom III isn't your thing, the Doom 3 engine will blow you away. Just think how many games use the Quake 3 engine that are better than Quake 3

is it me or is this game completely smooth at 35-50 fps. before i even ran the benchmarks and the 'stat fps' ingame, i thought i was getting at least 60-70. the game was running silky smoooth at 1200x1024. then i discover im only getting about 40 fps, which is cack in quake 3 and UT standards. but it didnt seem to affect play much.

Exactly. That's the beauty of the whole thing is that we don't need 200 million frames per second to have enjoyable gameplay. If it's silky smooth at 40-50fps, then hooya!

I did the opengl thing and it was much better, I won'b be using d3d. Using the 30.82's. And I read that opengl doesn't have the fancy water on the radeon cards, this in itself is reason enough to use it lol.

hehe, but its soo much more satifsying seing 180 fps over 35 fps, even if the difference in gameplay is pretty minimal.
my basic point before was that the UT team hav done a great job making things seem smooth even at 35+ fps. and as many ppl hav notice its more of a cpu thing than gfx card (unless of course u r a 9700 owner).

i must say there are still a few things that bug me. the weapons all look a bit similar, and there actually no new weapons at all, just new designs. unless u believe the rail gun, erm i mean lightening gun is something new.
