Yeah, the game runs pretty well on most nVidia hardware without AA or anisotropic filtering. The real problem is, once you try it with one or both enabled, it's hard to accept it without it. (Trust me, the AA shows VERY clearly once you compare the game with it to the game without it..)

The game looks very good without AA but when I use 4AA and 8 anios on my TI4600 the game slows to a crawl to about 20 FPS.

for me sweet spot is 1024x768 with quincunx. looks good enough, and the speed is still great.

yay got my athlon tbird 1.1ghz and gf2 gts to run ut2k3 800x600x16, lowest details with lighting, getting between 40 and 110 fps. i'm sure i can turn up the details but its running really smooth and sweet. now i have two computers to play ut2k3.

The game still look incredible great with out aa or aniso. Very good job by the programmers. It's great to see PCs as the graphic leader again. I was tired of consoles being ahead.

even at 640x480x16 with lowest details the graphics easily equal what a ps2 is capable of displaying on a tv.

Yep, consoles operate at low resolutions, and since they are on TVs they look "good". But the thing is, even at those low resolutions, none of the consoles can maintain framerates under stress like a decent PC can.

Which is one reason it will be interesting to see Unreal Championship running on the X-Box. I get the feeling that there's much more we should be able to do in the way of performance optizations with our hardware without causing the framerate hits we've been seeing. Just judging by preview movies of UC, anyway, which has the same lush graphics engine UT2003 is using, but cranked. If it runs smoothly on an XBox, which is basically the equivalent of a low end GF4 on a 700Mhz processor, then UT2003 should be able to run as well at higher than TV resolutions on a monitor with our 1-2GHz machines and GF4Ti's.

Things that make ya go hmm...

xbox isn't bogged down by an operating system such as windows xp. plus being a console, everything is optimized perfectly.
