Yep. What worries me about the xbox however is that it is a decent peice of hardware(low end GF4, P3 700) and it is running under the most clean and "pure" conditions. But I still see the frame rate drop on it, even tho it doesn't have to worry about an operating system or compatibility for universal hardware slots or anything, it has what it has, and thats all it takes, but it still stutters. And games like Morrowind(totally Bethsoft's fault) have horrid compatibility issues with the console. Shouldn't the Xbox, since it is running under "pure" conditions, be able to crank out huge framerates?

Things that make ya go hmm...

Actually coding for the xbox gives you a lot more advantages than for a "common pc". The term I hear was coding to the metal. With the hardware being fixed you are now able to go deep into the system and tweak things that you simply can not do with a PC version. The PC version have to rely on the D3D drivers and there is a big overhead with that. AFAIK the unreal engine uses a different code path to get as much as possible out of the xbox hardware.

I'm sure that's true, jb. That is why there's entries concerning XBox in the ut2003.ini file too. (Set to false, btw. But have a look..). But that also indicates to me that much of the current engine as it exists in UT2003 is being used for UC, since they are even using a common ini file (I assume only during development).

i heard the entries concerning xbox have nothing to do with xbox but it is just the standard name given to ut2 engine stuff, they just don't change it? at least that wat was said about america's army

as i recall it is exactly as Snake Eyes said. America's Army uses the UT2003 engine which is where the XBox references in the ini came from, and they just left them in America's Army for whatever reason.

I know this will seem like some random post, and will probably not get seen buried at the end of this thread, but i have a problem...ut2003 was working fine, then suddenly i get this error:

OS: Windows 2000 5.0 (Build: 2195)
CPU: AuthenticAMD PentiumPro-class processor @ 1415 MHz with 255MB RAM
Video: No Video

GetDeviceCaps failed(D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE) on adapter 0.

History: GetDeviceCaps <- UD3DRenderDevice::Init <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine


so its not recognizing my card, i changed to opengl, game works. So Directx8.1b seems to be poked, now other games that use it not working either. I know its installed, what the hell is the problem?? and more importantly, how can i fix it?

Wow. I just added that same server to my favorites last night, juicez. (I know because several of the people on your side in one of the shots was there as I played last evening. Instagib + Bombing Run rulz! )

I had a lot of fun too. I came in on the middle of my first match, and my side was down like 27-3 or something. Predictably, we lost. The next match I took up a defensive position in our side's base, and sniped anyone red player attempting to come through the door. Red managed one score during the normal timelimit, but I got a GodLike keeping them out. In overtime someone using adrenaline for speed got by me to win it. The total match took 2x the timelimit (probably longer), since nobody could score after the first cap on both sides.

It will chew it up and spit it out fast. This title isn't nearly as demanding as I thought it would be for the Ti4600.

I haven't been forced to lower aniso, resolution or AA, and I run the game at max detail. Go figure.
