Cheap 775 cooling?

My oldie c2d 1,86 (oced to 2,45) is idling at 50C and gaming 60-65+

Stock fan, 2600rpm jet idling on mozilla.

Replacing cooler would work? Cheap I mean, I dont want to throw money at this pc for much more, but I want it alive and not being a jet, becouse I like it and its still going stron after 4years. Good setup :P

So is there a point? Any recommendations?

On the side note- I am taking good care of my pc. Its clean and dusted off with cpu silk changed 6 months ago.

ive got:
SilentiumPC Spartan HE923

and only one SilentiumPC Zephyr 92

The case fan will take the air out from the back. I will also remove that side tube and leave big hole in that case so hopefully enough air will be sucked in.

About that cpu fan. Which way to install it? and how much silk to apply?

Which way?? Are you kidding??? ..The cupped part of the fins should be facing towards the back of the case, Put the fan so its pushing air through the fins of the heatsink not pulling air through the fins ..so at the front side of the heatsink nearest the ram...

How much depends what it is, Follow specific instruction method for your CPU and the brand of thermal interface material.

Filling in any gaps between the pipes and the sink with goop has been recommended for direct contact heatsinks such as this but it would depend on what you are using

It was cheap. But can't say how much in $$$. lets say around 30$

Dont worry, ive installed it as You said myself. The air is going through radiator and out through the back.

I also have case fan installed on the back, so it helps to suck the air out of the case. I also can install it on the side but Iam not sure if it would be any better

and Ive just covered whole cpu with grease. It seems to be working becouse temperatures are better in stress than desktop temps on stock

OCZ Vendetta 2 is what I'm using... $35 most places and it works REALLY well. only 3 - 5 degrees warmer than Corsair H50 temps and it's extremely quiet

When it comes to thermal grease you should apply a very thin layer, like a millimeter. So spread it as thin as you can using like an old credit card or some such.
The surface of the cpu and the bottom of the heatsink have tiny microscopic imperfections which traps air. Air is very bad at transferring heat. You apply thermal grease to fill in these imperfections giving the best possible contact between the two surfaces.
Thing is though, the thermal grease isn't all that good at transferring heat either (though its better then just air) so if you have too much of it, it can have a negative effect.

I too have an old cpu, an e6750 (2.66ghz) overclocked to 3.52ghz currently.
Idle temp is 34c and during load its about 50c.
This is with an Antec Kühler 920 and Arctic silver 5.
