Default Elite Dangerous

For those of you that were fans of space sims, Frontier have actually launched a modern version of Elite, called Elite Dangerous to satisfy your space exploration / combat / pirating / trading / sandbox cravings.

I am 2 weeks into it, sparingly playing as I have a baby to look after and even just 60 to 90 mins days feels good. weekends more.

It has MMO aspect but you can play solo or in private group but you do need be online as it is persistent universe, as it shapes ups to what you do as well as the collective.

Be warned, it has also been called Space Euro trucker because it is open ended with no single player arc, you just try to get along as best as you can by earning to upgrade your ships gear etc.

However, it feels good to space truck around, collect a few bounties, explore.... pew pew!

Bang Bang! I have my 10 year bonus coming up and that is solely going to be used for the purpose of purchasing a consumer retail version of the Oculus Rift and a beefier GPU to handle ED / Star Citizen etc

I have heard so much nergasm comments on Rift + ED or Star Citizen that, I am so invested to owning a retail version this year (hopefully Q4) that I put off upgrading my GPU and getting a new display after my old Dell 24" conked out.

Please do tell when you can, how has your immersive experience been Rift + ED or SC etc.
I know there are few visual anomalies like screen door effect but, these defects really do not get in the way it seems from a VR immersion perspective. Please enhance my anticipation of owning such a device hahaha!

In fact, I bought a Saitek X52 HOTAS and mapped all needed keys + Voice Attack for keyboards free experience in prepation for Rift!

By the way add me to your friends list .. CMDR...wait for IT, CMDR MUYA

Elite Dangerous is probably teh most epic sandbox space flying game out right now. You can be a trader or a bounty hunter or whatever. It is also the benchmark Rift game. In the Rift everything is true to scale and massive. You are literally strapped in the cocpit. You can turn your head and look out your windows to the stars and watch huge ships and rocks whiz by. You can look down at your digital hands and watch them make the same joystick movements that you make. It feels less like a videogame and more like the holodeck. And 10x more next gen than PS4 and Xbone. I never thought I'd be playing something like this in my lifetime. Not even 4k eyefinity screens can put you in space like the rift can

Since the consumer rift has not even been given a release date, I highly recommend that you spring for a DK2. They ship within a week. They retain their value if you take care of it (screen protecters on the lenses etc), and you might end up being able to sell it for more than what you bought it for , as they tend to stop production on the old models (making any rift temporarily impossible to buy) when the newer version gets closer to release.

I was reading that Crescent Bay prototypes they had in CES were the last ones before commercial release. Which to me as an ever optimist means not too far away from commercial release. And the fact in "Linkedin" they (FB)were e looking for QA for the rift, but have now stopped means means, should be closer to relase!
