Hi,
I'm thinking about buying an "ASUS V9520 Video Suite" card with the GeForce FX 5200 chipset. My PC runs on SuSE 7.1, that means it has a 2.4 kernel and XFree 4.0.2 and the libaries date 2001 and older. Can anybody tell me if the card will work with the nvidia driver on my system? By the way, I don't nescessarily need the TV in/out stuff while I'm running linux cause I have to keep my win98 for music production stuff (I hate it....) Thanks a lot jazzman |

Did you check the Linux drivers on Nvidia website. Its has very detailed instructions on installing the linux driver. I'm sure it supports the FX card since its Nvidia driver.

Hi cyberpunk,
thank you for your prompt reply. I did not yet buy the card, so I couldn't test the installer by now. But after reading your reply I checked once more the download area of nvidia. They suggest to use rpm's built by SuSE for versions 8.1 or older, still SuSE suggests to use the nvidia installer for 7.1 in their own nvidia-howto (ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/sup...ler-HOWTO.html). Anyhow, after all it seems to be possible to get things to work, so I'll try it out. I'll post another reply as soon as it works, just in case someone else is in a similar situation. Hopefully I'll be able to post after having messed up my system ;-) So long, jazzman |
