Default Re: No GTX680 until Q2 2012

Apparently no reviews till March 22/23 when NDA lifts

Today was apaprently a...erm I dunno press day only?

Would have been nice to get some more info

apart from it being a 680 with 1536 CCs and 2GB mem (at 256 bit mem interface)
Similar performance to 7970 (dunno what res and settings) i.e., win some, lose some
TDP at less than 200W
$550 apparently (fricking hope not)

Very disappointed if that pricing is right. This was only supposed to be a mid range product and even if it is as fast as the 7970, no way should it be as expensive. Does that mean that the high end 110 is around the 1k mark. If Nvidia's priced it that high, they missed out on a really big opportunity to really win this round.

NV may have upped the tempo with better compression techniques etc to save on bandwidth or even like 7XXX series adopted PRT techniques etc. I dunno about Rambus or E-dram

What are u talking about?
All IHV have had in their GPUS some form of compression techniques to save bandwidth for several generations now! Color compression/depth compression algorithms to save on bandwidth. This is all internal and not transparent to whatever shader code being churned in the CC units!

Color compression/depth compression has nothing to do with TWIMTBP type coding/optimizing in game code.

256 bit memory interface but based on leaked specs. the GK 104 still has 192 Gb/s is nothing to be sneezed at. Same as 580 GTX

So much for that price war... $550 is no buy zone for me. I was hoping it would be at most $499 to get AMD to make a move.

I guess supply isn't enough and they are sure they will sell all they can produce at this price point. That might have a bit to do with the rumoured TSMC 28nm production shut down. That could also be why you still can't buy 7800's.

I was hoping for $450 or so....not $550 as well. If the performance delta between the GK104 and my 580 GTX is at the 30-50% level I might upgrade...though 50% maybe GK110 rather than GK104

I'm sure he does. All this waiting is killing me. It feels like it's so close I can almost taste it.

Speculation on dual GK104 part and an August release for the GK 110 (one with 2304 CCs, 192 TMUs, 48 ROPs, 384 bit mem interface)
