GF4 ti 4200
driver not know the one that comes with the update suse 8.2 dont have one amd 2100+ MSI KT4V And this is the error that I get when I try to install the 4496 drivers from nvidia's site No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes) -> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site; this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for your kernel. ERROR: Unable to find the kernel header files for the currently running kernel. Please make sure you have installed the kernel header files for your kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct kernel header files are installed, you may specify the kernel include path with the '--kernel-include-path' commandline option. OK WHAT DO I DO NEXT TO FIX THIS |

You have to install your kernel-source package in order for the drivers to be able to compile. It's either in the redhat CD or you can download the package from sourceforge for your kernel version.
install that and then try the nvdia installer again it should get further then that but i never got it work yet if i recompiles the kernel. |

This is the log file
Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface -> License accepted. -> An NVIDIA_kernel rpm appears to already be installed on your system. As par t of installing the new driver, this NVIDIA_kernel rpm will be uninstalled. Are you sure you want to continue? ('no' will abort installation) (Answer: Y es) -> Removed NVIDIA_kernel. -> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes) -> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site; this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for your kernel. -> Kernel include path: '/lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB-athlon/build/include' -> Cleaning kernel module build directory. executing: 'cd ./usr/src/nv; make clean'... rm -f nv.o os-agp.o os-interface.o os-registry.o nv-linux.o nv_compiler.h * .d NVdriver nvidia.o -> Building kernel module: executing: 'cd ./usr/src/nv; make nvidia.o SYSINCLUDE=/lib/modules/2.4.20-4G B-athlon/build/include'... You appear to be compiling the NVIDIA kernel module with a compiler different from the one that was used to compile the running kernel. This may be perfectly fine, but there are cases where this can lead to unexpected behaviour and system crashes. If you know what you are doing and want to override this check, you can do so by setting IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH. In any other case, set the CC environment variable to the name of the compiler that was used to compile the kernel. [1;31m*** Failed cc sanity check. Bailing out! *** [0mmake: *** [gcc-check] Error 1 -> Error. ERROR: Unable to build the NVIDIA kernel module. ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com. |

You are probably need to install the correct kernel source for your kernel version.
use: uname -a or: uname -l to find out what version your kernel is and download the correct source rpm and install it. Hope this helps. |

press CTRL+ALT+F1 Then log in as root and type: cd /where/your/driver/is/downloaded init 3 export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=yes sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run sax2 (enable 3D support) init 5 This worked for me (except my GL-performance is very poor )ciao |
