Default i got error installing new drivers in linux mandrake 9.1

i have downoladed the file NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run
from nvidia site and running the command in a mandrake terminal using kde (in root mode).after a decompression the installer give me this message:
ERROR: Unable to find the system utility `ld`; please make sure you have the
package 'binutils' installed. If you do have binutils installed,
then please check that `ld` is in your PATH.

plz help me im noob (im using linux since 1 st september... i need these drivers to play nwn for linux so help me!!!!
