Default 295.40 breaks vbiosd

Installation of NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-295.40.run on a Toshiba Qosmio with GeForce GT 540M and Solaris 11 11/11 causes vbiosd to fail.

$ svcs -x
svc:/system/vbiosd:default (BIOS call emulation)
State: maintenance since Sat Apr 14 14:56:42 2012
Reason: Start method exited with $SMF_EXIT_ERR_CONFIG.
See: http://sun.com/msg/SMF-8000-KS
See: vbiosd(1M)
See: /var/svc/log/system-vbiosd:default.log
Impact: This service is not running.
$ tail /var/svc/log/system-vbiosd:default.log
[ Apr 12 19:39:24 Leaving maintenance because clear requested. ]
[ Apr 12 19:39:24 Enabled. ]
[ Apr 12 19:39:24 Executing start method ("/lib/svc/method/svc-vbiosd start"). ]
vbiosd: start-up process failed
WARNING: /usr/sbin/vbiosd failed
[ Apr 12 19:39:24 Method "start" exited with status 96. ]
[ Apr 14 14:56:41 Executing start method ("/lib/svc/method/svc-vbiosd start"). ]
vbiosd: start-up process failed

Other than this, the driver seems to work. Is this a serious problem? Thanks.

Default Re: 295.40 breaks vbiosd

It's fixed in Oracle's version not available for free download. This goes back probably around 4 or 5 releases so far. Nvidia hasn't fixed it yet. The problem was reported to Nvidia about 3 months ago.

Also, it's not a critical bug:

"vbiosd is responsible for restoring the console video mode
when X is shut down or switching VTs. Since you are using
the driver from nvidia.com you won't get fastreboot so the
console mode will be restored by the BIOS. Worst problem
here is you may not see messages when Solaris is being
shut down. If you have VTs enabled they should still work
if you have booted with console=force-text"
