Installation of NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-295.40.run on a Toshiba Qosmio with GeForce GT 540M and Solaris 11 11/11 causes vbiosd to fail.

Is this a serious problem? Thanks. Bernie |

It's fixed in Oracle's version not available for free download. This goes back probably around 4 or 5 releases so far. Nvidia hasn't fixed it yet. The problem was reported to Nvidia about 3 months ago.
Also, it's not a critical bug: "vbiosd is responsible for restoring the console video mode when X is shut down or switching VTs. Since you are using the driver from nvidia.com you won't get fastreboot so the console mode will be restored by the BIOS. Worst problem here is you may not see messages when Solaris is being shut down. If you have VTs enabled they should still work if you have booted with console=force-text" |
