Default Nvidia Geforce GTX 550Ti and problems booting up.

my motherboard is gigabyte z68ma-d2h-b3
cpu is i7-2600

I built a new computer and I tried to install Linux but I would get either blank black screens or error messages. After checking if all hardware was installed correctly, I tried again. I still got the same errors. I saw an error message that had pci in it, so i thought maybe something with graphic card as it is the only thing connected to pci slot. I uninstalled the video card and tried to install Linux Mint 12 again. It installed normally. I turned off computer and it booted to Mint just fine. I thought it was all ok now. I reinstalled video card and rebooted and it got stuck on error messages screen again. I cannot boot into Mint with the video card installed.
After trying several times, I got to screen where I can choose normal OS or recovery mode. I chose recovery mode and it took me to screen where I chose Resume Normal Boot. This was the only time i was able to get into Mint with the video card installed. The image on the screen had about a 2 inch black frame around it and the resolution was bad. From here I installed Bumblebee 3.0 as a reccommendation and rebooted. It took me to a screen that said Checking Battery State... this didn't work as it is for laptops. I ununstalled it.

What is it with this video card that doesn't let me boot the OS?

What other information do you need from me to be able to answer my question better?
