Windows 8 SKUs announced

When Windows 8 hit RTM and retail, you will not see so many versions such as Windows 8 Starter, Home Basic, Home Edition, Professional and Ultimate.

Now Microsoft want to make it simple by release only 4 SKUs with Windows 8, Windows 8 PRO, Windows RT and Windows 8 Enterprise.

Starter, Home Basic and Home Edition merged as Windows 8.

Professional and Ultimate merged as Windows 8 PRO.

Windows RT are for ARM CPUs.

Wow media center will require pro, plus an additional expense.

I'll probably end up getting pro for free via ELMS, but it's stupid to have to pay extra.

Windows media center is a buggy POS, but sadly it's the only option for watching digital cable.

Wow that is honestly a very good thing. It's really just 2 versions of the OS. Windows 8 and Windows RT are basically the same features, just one for ARM and one for x86. Windows 8 pro and Enterprise are likely the same thing with just with volume licensing for enterprise.

The one thing that doesn't make a lot of sense is that windows media center doesn't come with Windows 8 pro...

Office coming with Windows RT is cool. It will be interesting to see how much functionality it's going to have though. You can't do much editing on WP7 so hopefully it will have more features on the tablet.

Yea I read that... But I'm wondering how much of that can be done on Pro... I was thinking along the lines of the the toolkits that they have released in the past. There might be a toolkit for some of those features, and probably still the ability to install Virtual PC. I do know that you can install Windows 8 onto a thumb drive, so there might be a wizard included in Enterprise to make it easier, but chances are good you could still do it on Pro. We'll just have to wait and see what the features are.

Yeah media center has been included in home and pro since Vista, why downgrade features? I can understand making it a Live Download but at extra expense it makes no sense unless the price will be discounted without it (yeah right).
