No 3D at all in Ubuntu 12.04 with GeForce 7025

I can run Unity 2D only. No 3D, no Gnome Shell.

I tried downgrading to the .33 driver, but only got a "signal out of range" error message on the monitor. lightdm would not even start up.

When I re-installed the .40 driver, I got Unity 2D back. But nothing requiring 3D at all.

Suggestions? Or do I just have to wait until a fixed driver comes out?
