So my HD that I use for my Steam Games with symbolic link is slowly dying I believe with recent games having issue installing to it. Its a Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm drive with 750GB of Storage. Would it be beneficial at all to go with a WD Raptor or should I just get a 1TB 7200rpm drive?
Would go SSD but I need a large capacity drive for my Steam Install. |

would an OCZ Synapse help? Nvelo only releasing the software to oem's and vendors is bollocks.

I wanted a caviar black 1tb but couldn't find one for less than $140. That's bs so I went with a slightly faster seagate with the same 64mb cache for $80 ar. Couldn't justify the price

1 TB WD Black's are comparable to the Raptors in many benchmarks. When you look at game related benches you only see the Raptor ahead with load times by a second or two at most, and that's with a 30 second load versus 32. Not even noticeable.
You could always go the bat-****-crazy route and buy two Enterprise level drives at 15k RPM, a bitchin controller, and RAID 1 the drives. Or just buy the SSDs. I'd recommend going with any 1 TB drive that you like. I'm partial to Samsung and WD. |

I bought a 1TB WD Green drive couple years ago on a black friday sale back when $80 for a 1TB was unheard of.
![]() It gets *very* light usage, but it is still going to this day. |

I use my 640gb WD Black for my steam games. Very quiet compared to my raptor and there isnt that much difference in speed. Put two of them in RAID 1 and your laughing.
