That still doesnot explain why it slows down in both d3d/OpenGL/windows but not OpenGL in Linux.

If it's nv35 related then it would slow down in OpenGL/Linux as well but it doesnot.

So let's reckon that Linux runs faster. The point is a R3x0 using the same OS (windows) and the same API (D3D) performs better (IQ and speed) that its nv3x equivalent in the same conditions. They're trying to determine what's causing the nv35 to perform that bad in these precise conditions, so the fact that a nv35 performs well in Linux using the OGL API is great, but it doesn't help them much.

No, it says that the nv35's hardware has NOTHING to do with the speed problem in Icetomb, thats wht it says.

I don't think so. It simply says that OpenGL in Linux runs faster than OpenGL in Windows, period. You're just forgetting R3x0 performance in D3D. There are hardware differences between R3x0 and nv3x, aren't there ? But there's no difference between DirectX 9.0 and itself, so the chances are high that it's an hardware related problem.

edit : by the way, your reasoning is based on what we call a sophism .

Runs faster, how do you make that out? I mean it runs like **** in windows D3D/OpenGL, obviouly there is a problem somewhere, more lightly driver related.

In Linux it runs just like any other UT2003 level, how can that be a hardware problem?

Right, it could be a driver problem. However, saying that since the game runs faster in Linux OpenGL than in Windows OpenGL excludes the possibility that there's a problem with the way nv35 hardware handles D3D instructions is simply not a valid argument.

ok, but on one level?, hmmm I dont see how that could possibly happen.

Has anyone tried it in different DX versions?

The performance issue is pretty mute now as new detonators have solved the performance issues with these 2 maps in Ut2k3. The question of how is anybody's guess.

IQ remain relatively unchanged from the pseudo bi/tri filtering applied in previous 45.xx drivers. Although to me, the IQ in UT2k3 has never been better on my fx5900u using the 52.13 beta dets.

That could be due to some Dx9 texture-effects specific to that level. Effects that wouldn't be rendered at all in OpenGL, hence the absence of performance hit in OpenGL in this level, compared to the other levels.

perhaps the Linux NV drivers can't render the fog, which is the cause of all Icetomb slowness? or maybe the crazy specularity?

ah, gotta love people ignoring the obvious and assuming that it's simply because Preferred Product A is better than Hated Product B (although we all know how much I hate MS... heh.)

Yer but UT2003 is DX8.1, you dont need DX9 to play Icetomb.

It renders the fog in Linux/OpenGL, as you move the fog slips away in the distance.
