GeForce 440 MX + Mandrake 9.1

First of all my GeForce works fine with the distro included driver named "nv".

After processing install the lastest release something strange happens. No way to make server X work


I'm not looking for something accelerated. I need this card for its TV output.
I looked all the different troubleshoots i suppose except if i missed one.
Even tried with the path to the kernel sources
while installing the nvidia driver and the last attempt was with gl headers as i had a complaint
of the Xfree86 unable to find nvidia GLX driver.

THE HARDWARE
------------------------

The motherboard is one winfast 7350KDA on which there is an AMD 2000+
128 MB DDR memory
Brooktree BT878 TV Card
Wacom graphic tablet "Pen Partner"
PS/2 Trackball
Mandrake is configured to be launched using the "noapic" feature because it used to freeze my usb keyboard.

So this definition script works ok with touching nothing else but the driver definition.
When i set "nv" it's ok but when i have the idea
to change it for something like "nvidia"

the final result is in the attached file.

The Log file yyou attached is for the NV driver and not with nvidia as evident by the NV(0): throughout the log

anyway found how to start it but too many pc freeze occurs and no way to get some video out at the S-VIDEO. Maybe this card was sold with tv out blown.

lsmod was usefull to make me see that after install of the driver nothing was loaded even after uninstall, install, reboot and so on.

Allways a silly message about no usable screen saw in the Xfree log.
The thing that made it approximately work was modprobe within the /lib/modules/linux/drivers/video etc.

Don't know if some other brand is able to work with linux without so much bothering about install and for tv out too.

HI my tvout works great with nvidia driver , geforce4 mx 440 , sis chipset and REDHAT 9 2.4.8-20 but now I'm using mandrake 9.1 on the same pc and doesnt work (X FREEZE). it so much pain in the ass for me.

now it works ok from the last time. In fact i was wrong not using the relative values for 'tv' display. For example :

if you have 1024 x 768 display on your crt
the value indicated in second place in the sentence is representation of the display you want for tv. In the end with a display of 1280x1024 on my crt i set 800x600 for the tv and it builds a relative desktop which represents my crt display.

It could seem very simple but as i'm not english native, sometimes few words could give me the thought i understood and finally i can see i didn't.

For easy setup with mandrake 9.1
first install with the advanced options and especially let the driver find out where are the libraries needed. Add --openg-gl too
a lsmod and a modprobe for the nvidia and everything runs fine

I'm having the same problem. Can't get into X after installing the drivers and updating my XFree86Config-4. Get the can't find the XFree86 Nvidia driver message. I'm not that Linux savvy yet so I don't know that much, but I'm learning slowly.

Can anyone please help me out here with a few pointers? Perhaps I did something wrong?
