Default Re: NVidia 96.xx.xx & 173.xx.xx Legacy drivers donít work in Ubuntu 12.04

with nouveau I can't get gnome3 shell working, only gnome-fallback (= gnome classic)

so, if I have to choose between gnome classic (of gnome3 without nvidia driver) and gnome classic (of gnome2 but with 96.xx nvidia driver).. I think it's better gnome2 with nvidia driver

please give me a driver for my nvidia mx440 so that I can use gnome3

I have four computers with the same configuration.. I don't want to buy new pc to use linux, when they work well.. only because of a missing driver.....

please help

Smile Re: NVidia 96.xx.xx & 173.xx.xx Legacy drivers donít work in Ubuntu 12.04

I had problems installing the 173.14.34 package 0 due to "nouveau drivers already running".

After following the instructions here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...79&postcount=8 including the "sudo update-initramfs -u" and a reboot, the install finished.

There is joy!

I've got a GeForce 6200 in an old Dell Demension 4550 w/the new nvidia driver 295.53 w/Ubuntu 12.04 unity 3d. This old computer is working better then it has in a long time. At the same time, I've got a Systemax w/AMD Athlon 64 w/GeForce 7200 GS, upgraded it to 12.04 and all desktop failed, no launcher, no top panel, no terminal,just a few folders that where not there before(11.10). I had to go back to 11.10 where I could have a working computer. After going back to 11.10, I installed the new nvidia driver 295.53, and that driver works w/11.10. I've tried to run the live cd of 12.04,but the screen (monitor)turns off because of no signal,so,I cann't even try 12.04 on a live cd. I have 2 HP laptops, 1 w/ATI video card and the other w/nvidia, both are working w/o any problems w/12.04 installed. The first Ubuntu version on the AMD machine was 64 bit when I tried to upgrade to 12.04,since,I insatlled the 32 bit of 11.10.

@AaronP

I'm sure my user demographic is not very popular at you company currently. So id like to first say thank you, for all the work you've put in over the years updating Nvidia's drivers, to work with the latest Xorg releases.

Now to my question. I know it is never productive to try and pin a developer down on a release date, but as it is I check this forum everyday. So I'd really appreciate a conformation or denial as regards to an update for the Nvidia 96.43.xx driver. Thanks for you consideration in advance.

I've just registered an account on this forum to add my name at the bottom of the list of people eagerly waiting for the 96.xx driver update.
Thanks in advance if you do release it.

Dear nVidia team, I think most of you are working hard to provide support to us, so please ignore luk1don's little taunt, and please give us a 96.xx update roadmap

Thumbs up Re: NVidia 96.xx.xx & 173.xx.xx Legacy drivers donít work in Ubuntu 12.04

My mother board recomends nvidia geforce 2 . Its also compatable to my amd processer. If a release of the 96 driver does not happen soon and I am forced to buy a new vidio card, It wont be nvidia. please update.
