Looking for a new monitor...

So I built a new computer for my parents as a b-day gift. I'm also giving them my monitor as with it being larger, should be easier for them to read things. Anyhow, I'm gonna' be rocking their smaller Dell 20.1" for a bit but want to upgrade to a 27" within a month.

So just looking for some feed back. My price range is preferrably $200 - $300, at the upper limit being $400 but I would really prefer not spend that much.

What I'm looking for is an LED 27" monitor with emphasis on build quality over image quality- I don't want dead pixels appearing within a year of owning it or something else failing. I don't do much in the way of video or photo editing (may down the road but not too concerned about it). I mostly play video games and watch movies, occasionally doing some photo or video editing but it's far from the primary use of my computer. Prefer to only spend between $200 and $300, $400 only if it's absolutely necessary.

Forget the 27". Because 1080p on a 27" looks horrible, and a 1440p 27" will run you $800+ for a nice one. Go for 24" with this, http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...n&sku=320-2676

If you really want a 27", get at least a 2560x1440 one. The Dell U2711 costs less then $700 here. I'd say it would be worth saving for that screen instead of getting a 1080p screen for around $400...

Don't know about its build quality but the panel used is excellent and half the price of others (same one as the dells and apple big boys)

24" is definately the sweetspot for 1080p/ 1920x1200 resolutions.

They are cheaper here too, Dell is one of the few hardware sellers that constantly update pricing to match the markets.

I'd recommend a 24" Dell also. I have 2 U2711s and they have been awesome, both in quality and service. They had the screens delivered the next day and the discounts were pretty good also.

Really??? $309 for that!?!?!!???

That's LED and IPS- holy flippin' cow! I expected something like that to run nearing $1k! Same size and same resolution as my previous HP monitor while consuming half the power, taking up less space, and likely producing a far superior image... man I'm tempted to buy it now but I'd have to dip into my savings.

slaWter is right, personally i would go for a s-ips or ips LCD DELL but you may pay upto $600, but for the price and the fact Redeemed stated he wanted LED then the Dell U2412M is a bargain to be had.

I'm not a video buff by any means and though this may not compare favorably to today's high-end screens, it'll be much better than my previous HP Monitor and much better than the monitor I'm using now. And it's within my price range.

slaWter is write but Redeemed can't afford what slaWter is so right about so Redeemed will make the right choice based of his wallet to technology ratio cost analysis algorithm. <- I did that for slaWter.
