It used to be, that nvidia-driver did not work with PAE-kernels on FreeBSD...
I have a machine with 8Gb of RAM, but the video-card, that's considered "legacy" by NVidia -- and no amd64-ready driver will work with it... To be able to use the card, I must stay with FreeBSD/i386. Without PAE, this means, not using half of the available RAM... Is PAE still a no-no? Thanks! |

Yes, the limitation still applies to the legacy drivers. We do still plan on updating them eventually, but unfortunately, we're buried too deep for that to happen anytime soon.

So, no PAE support on the new drivers also? I'm terribly surprised to find this out, being such an elementary issue ...

Which driver releases are you referring to as the new drivers? The FreeBSD 8+ drivers for GeForce 6 series and newer GPUs shouldn't have any more trouble with PAE than the kernel itself.
