Default BUG 302.17 - can not access TTY console

Hello,

I installed 302.17 beta drivers and I can not access to my TTY console (ctrl+alt+Fx): I obtain only a black screen. After some seconds, then my monitor shut up like there was no signal.

In dmesg I have this message:

Code:
NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console on the primary VGA device.
The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver requires the use of a text-mode VGA console.
Use of other console drivers including, but not limited to, vesafb, may result in corruption and stability
problems, and is not supported.
Thanks for your help.

Deactivate your console framebuffer.

I don't think my framebuffer is on, but how could I verify?

If it wasn't on, you wouldn't get that message. Even if you deactivate it, you might still not get consoles. There's a bug affecting Geforce 8/9 cards, search around, plenty of threads about that.

I have no problems with my GeForce 9600 GT, even with vesa framebuffer enabled.

In short disable framebuffer and set a usual VGA 80x25 console.

It's a regression but NVIDIA cannot solve it at this time (maybe they won't solve it ever).

I disable my framebuffer as explained at this page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FrameBuffer

In the file "/etc/default/grub/grub", I add "nofb" to this line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nofb"

do a update-grub and I reboot the computer

At the reboot I still have framebuffer, to verify I'm using fbset:

Code:
$ fbset

mode "1680x1050-77"
    # D: 176.429 MHz, H: 82.908 kHz, V: 77.196 Hz
    geometry 1680 1050 1680 1050 32
    timings 5668 208 32 16 4 208 4
    rgba 8/16,8/8,8/0,8/24
endmode
I looked in my bios, there is no framebuffer option.
And in dmesg I have always the error message about vesafb.

And I still can not access to my TTY console.

another idea? Put "vga=" in the grub command line could disable framebuffer? I will get a try.

I finally find a way to deactivate framebuffer:
I blacklisted module vesafb, launch update-initramfs -u and reboot.
At reboot I had error messages (file not found) and the uglier plymouth animation I seen, good sign of a lack of framebuffer.

Effectively, if I do a:

$ lsmod |grep fb, nothing appear

in dmesg, there are no more error messages

Good, framebuffer is off, I try to access to my TTY console, nothing, black screen then my monitor suspend.

I finally revert all my configuration like it was before.
Now I have just to wait they will correct this bug soon.
