Over at Scalability.org, Joe Landman writes that the recent financial debacle with the Encanto supercomputer in New Mexico shows that it is more important than ever to have a valid business model in today's HPC market.University level supercomputing centers are common. State/regional level centers are subject to politics as well as difficult business choices. Some have thrived, even in the face of painful changes (PSC). Others, not so much.
