Unhappy Matrox exit 3D gaming market

I remember back end of December 2001, 3dfx exited 3D gaming market days before the assets sold to Nvidia. Now it Matrox turn to exit 3D gaming market, Matrox is still in business as they will be no longer serve in 3D gaming market, the only market they will focus is on CAD. No more Surround Gaming!

Now all it left in 3D gaming market are Nvidia, ATI, XGI and S3.

uhh, competition is good, even if "you" dont use it doesnt mean others wont and it wont bring prices down.

The Parhelia was hardly "competition" for the enthusiast market. More expensive and outperformed in many cases my the GF4 Ti and solidly whipped by the 9700 Pro.

Matrox has its niche in the market and they should stay there because there isn't much competition in their segment.

Lets face it

Matrox was never good with games

It was never a competitive company for 3d (games) compared to ATI and Nvidia...Their hardware never reccomended dor games

As a proffesional card is good but for 3d games always SUCKED in stability\performance and with these really big price tags for their hardware

If they plan to stop 3d gaming support that's good...We have nothing to lose from them anyway in that sector

It's better that Matrox will continue making Only proffesional type Hardware and not for entertaiment

The Three Monitor set up never caught on as a gameing solution, besides the card not performing well.

WTF you on about !?!?
Back in the day of Directx 6 to Directx 7 cards, they were very competitive with G400MAX, and that was one of the first card to expliot the importance of high memory bandwidth. There were not much issues with games compare to Rage Pro at the time. You can not say never when they were once competitive. In fact, ATi only came to gaming scene when they first introduce the Radeon (R100), the Rage Fury Maxx and Rage Pro before that are a piece of crap.

Matrox sucks when they don't bother with the demands in gaming market then introduce the Parhelia which was delay for about 1 1/2 years.

Are you F kidding me????

G400MAx was a pile of Sh.. with games and almost 2 out of 10 games were only supporting it at that time...

Matrox never cared until now of making some stable\compatible drivers for games and if they do not plan to make something about it..THEN it is better to stop carrying about 3d game Market and care about proffesional use...Thats it what i am saying....

They had nothing so important to show as with their hardware for 3dgames and still they do not...

I do not know someone that buys MATROX cards for playing games do you???

Hey, I was never a big fan of Matrox's graphics cards, but you can't argue that they had some damn nice features on their cards. The Parhelia's multi-monitor support was terrific, if games like IG3 had actually come out and used the feature the way it was designed, it would've been a terrific experience that offered something that's enhances the game AND would be availible to a decent number of people (unlike the multi-monitor setups for flight sims). Also, the fragment AA that they used was a very nice feature, Nvidia would've done much better to replace their current AA methods with fragment AA.

There's more to videocards then raw speed you know

the 16x Fragment AA of Matrox is probably the best IQ i've seen out of AA since the Voodoo 5....(Not counting Quincux (BLURCux)) and the G400MAX was awesome! When i played Expendible w/ the water bump-mapping, i was hooked. Shame the OpenGL support waned, but it was an excellent DX6/7ish card.
