Default Got a Hercules sound card, read here plz!

Ok, I have the 6.1 sound card and someone here mentioned something about the DSP chip. What I find strange is the following.

Fortissmo III has the CS4624 chip
The Digifire 7.1 has the CS84624 chip
The XP Theatre 7.1 has the CS4624 chip
**The XP Theatre 6.1 has the CS4630 chip

And if you look here, http://www.cirrus.com/design/product...etail.cfm?d=42 is indicating the 4630 is an updated version of the 4624 chip, so then I ask you, are we screwed with the XP Theatre 6.1 having a chip which Hercules doesn't put on any of their new cards. Makes me wonder why they are outputting new cards with the lesser DSP module on it...

reason being I want to get my dad one but not necessarily the one I have seeing how the DSP on mine doesn't seem to exist on any of the newer cards.

What are your thoughts, please.

I know what you mean, but the only thing i could think of is to keep the cost down on the other ones. The GTXP is the most expensive on that list no?

That's the reason I decided to buy the Hercules Game Theatre 6.1 right now. I didn't want to get the inferior chip so I picked up the 6.1. I read somewhere that the 6.1 could be updated to 7.1 with new drivers so there is no reason to get a 7.1 with a 4624 DSP. I think that the price is pretty low considering it's about $90 US and the audigy platinum ex is about $200-220 US.

but it still concerns me that the 6.1 is the only card sporting this chip... i wonder if there are problems down the road for this DSP and that is the reason Hercules is downgrading their DSP... That would be cool though that an update will bring it to 7.1

If that were the case, they probably would of changed the chip when they Revised the GTXP to the GTXP 6.1.

Also Frank_L, i dunno about you but i can get an Audigy for 65$ USD, OEM version of course.

Yes I know the Audigy OEM is $65US... I can have it for $100 CND in Quebec but if you're like me and want the external rack, you have to pay $350 CND for it which is more than 2 times the price on the GTXP 6.1. A bit too expensive for a bunch of problems with via motherboards like mine.

Hey Audigy sucks... Creative could try and give me one free and I'd spit on it and throw it at them. They can keep their overhyped hunk of junk PCI bus hogging diahrea smelling card.

What i'd like to do is take Creatives Audigy box, with a camcorder and piss on the box and send them the video and publish it on the net. I'd drop a load on it too, because together I think they stink equally as well.

This thread is about Hercules, not Creative, please don't bring up Audigy in here. I couldn't care less if Audigy included a porn magazine in their box, I will never touch that crap ever again.

P.S. But I did have fun throwing all my Creative stuff in the fireplace, makes for good fuel for fires...

Ummmm what is that?? my buddy has a VIA chipset board, what problems are you talking about?? This would be enough drive for him to scrap his and get the same card as mine. So far I have converted 7 people!!!

I mostly shop at Microbytes and La centrale informatique since they have great prices. Microbytes is often more expensive but sometimes it's cheaper than elsewhere.
