ATI runs the, "STANDARD" DX9 codepath. Valve did not code for ATI hardware, they coded to the DX9 spec. I believe you will see this when XGI's card comes out. If it runs well on both ATI and XGI hardware and not [N]'s, it must be that ATI and XGI both paid valve???? Yeah thats it.
I don't care what ATI runs because mixed mode is included in DX9.
What you call standard DX9 is ATIs vision of DX9 which was adopted by MS. Nv3x was in development already back in those times.
No way to change anything in the design.

So i appreciate everything which Nvidia does to increase the performance.
And i hope Nvidia will be in business because i don't want ATI to get in the market position NV is. To bad memories from the past considering their crap products.

ATI having 97% of $300+ marketshare is very well known....
Go back and read your original statement. You simply said "ATI has at least 97% of $300+ card market share".

Which is why I posted the link to the information regarding NV's continued dominance of the pro market, where many cards are $300+. (Hence my remark about the "el cheapo" Quadro2) There's just no way ATI has 97% (total units and/or dollar value) of all cards over $300.

yes - thats whats made me so reluctant to invest in an ATi card until now: the old ATi.

ATi's older cards are so incredibly terrible its quite humorous.

could someone tell me why adopting one standard and not another is cheaing?

I honestly think the cheating thing is blown out of proportion. Especially since ATi'll be running fp32 code @ fp24 come Doom3 time.

Both companies suck people - get over it and yourselves.

the sooner the better

For the record DX8.1 would be refering to PS 1.3/1.4 support

First of all.. Go figure out what you are talking about.

There is no FP32 "code" in Doom-III.

The highest path is the ARB2 path which uses the STANDARD OpenGL extensions and uses whatever the hardware supports, be it FP24/FP32 or whatever.

The other paths like the Nvidia path uses Nvidia proprietary extensions and uses a LOT of Fx12 and FP16.

There are about 3 or 4 of you that keep repeating the same simply False information over and over every time to try to make some kind of pont. Base your Views on accurate information and get with the program.

You know that's not the case here. Don't twist the whole situation into a mess with one oversimplified statement.
