Default Windows update down?

I've been trying to check for new Windows updates, but I've been getting an error while the site is scanning and it's not able to return any results. This happened last night and is going on today. It's not working with either my desktop or laptop. Could someone else go online and see if I'm not the only one with this problem?

Yeah I had this problem at work last week. Several times... Really annoying. I'll try to connect again tomorrow.

OK I'm glad it's not just me then. It's not that big a deal because both my systems have been fully updated for a while, but should I need to format/reinstall in the near future, I don't want to be without this service.

Are you actually scanning for updates? The WU main page loads just fine, but if you try to scan for updates, it returns an error.

I just did it. Came up with 4 Windows 2000 "Recommended Updates". 0 Critical, 0 Driver.

And as an aside, let me say how pleased I was to see the Cubs beat the Braves (even though I live in the ATL area). Here's hoping they go all the way!

Cheers,
JND

Working fine for me, I usually let windows auto update, but ran a scan to check for you. 1 critical update, and 15 XP updates, installing the critical update now.

I think I figured out what the problem is. Here's a tidbit I picked up:

Quote:
Now this general error message 0x800A138F, that some folks get when they visit Windows Update, has been around for a while. BUT, when the MSBlast virus was unleashed Microsoft changed a few things at the main update website. One of them was to use Akamai for additional bandwidth and this connectivity is exclusively using HTTPS (SSL) for the downloading of the update catalogue. It is since then that we have seen an escalation in the number of 0x800A138F error messages!
Interestingly enough, the Dealtime.com ad uses Akamai, and lately I haven't been able to download that ad. And going to http://www.akamai.com results in a DNS error. That's been going on for the last couple days. I'm willing to bet they're doing some sort of major upgrade and service should hopefully be restored some time soon.

At least I hope.

It works fine for me at work also. It has to be an issue with my ISP then. I sent an e-mail to their support and have something I can try. Unfortunately I can't do anything about it this weekend.
