Brand new machine with an nVidia Quadro FX Go5200 with 32Meg. Putting Redhat 9 on it. Got the newest nvidia drivers from the web, installed them and I have to assume they're working because when I go into X I see a big nVidia splash screen.
The problem is that for the life of me I can't get past 800x600 resolution on the screen. Help!? When I run windows on the machine I can easily get 1600x1200. I'd be happy with something in the middle. What am I doing wrong? I've tried redhat-config-xfree86 as well as manually editing the Screen section of XF86Config but I always get 800x600. ![]() Thanks! |

Very interesting!
About 3 months ago, we purchased an Inspiron 5150 at the company where I work, and it had an ATI Mobility 9000 videocard. It worked fine under Linux, *but not under Windows 2000*. The notebook was unusable because Windows XP is not supported on the company LAN and Dell refused to give out a driver that worked under Windows 2000. We had to buy a Latitude D600 instead, which has the same videocard but it does work. And now I read about a machine under the same type but with another videocard, and it does not run under Linux. Maybe it works under Windows 2000 this time? Strange folks at Dell. I think there is a big pact to force all Dell clients into using Windows XP and nothing else. Look at the advertisements on their webpages. |

I seem to have found my own problem. My generic (non-probed) monitor had lousy frequencies. Based on another 5150 post I found in this forum I changed them to horizsync 31.5 - 90.0, and vertrefresh 59.0 - 75.0.
Now I am getting upwards of 1450x1050 (or whatever the closest resolution is), and perfectly happy with it. |
