Angry Quadro FX700 GoGL / dell M60

Im trying to get a quadro FX700 to work on a dell M60 laptop.

With the 43XX drivers everything works fine, (that is, X works, quake works &c) excecpt that certain OGL extentsion that I need are not available.

This seems to be caused by the fact that teh card is not (fully) recognized by the driver.

So I installed 4496 on it. But 4496 does not bstart up correclt , in stead of the nvidia log and Xscreen I get a darkish screen over which some white bits ``gloop'' from the corners, after which they disappear as well.

If I stop X I get my text consoles back,but they suffer from a continously changing coloured background (if you remember the fast loader for the Commodore 64 you know what I mean ).

Even though X does not show anything, X gets started up, and I can query /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0 and see that the card is correclty recognised [by ssh-ing into the machine]. Similarily I can rin glxconfig (by ssh-ing in the machine and setting the DISPLAy varaibale) and see that the required extensions are now available.

I've tried:
-> enabling acpi/diabling ACPI
-> en/disabling apm
-> en/disabling AGP (nvagp 0,1,2,3)
different screen resolutions &c ...

XF86Config is the same as for the 43XX drivers (and worked with those).

XFree.0.log seems similar to the logs I got from the 43XX series.

Ill attach my Xfree log .

Does anyone hee managed to get this contraption to work ?

Ha ... Some progress.

Here's a trick to get 4496 to work with the Quadro FX 700 GoGL.

1) install 4496 (D'oh)
2) start X
3) Your LCD screen will look complete garbled
4) Now close the lid of your laptop
(or press that little button that gets depressed when you close the lid)
5) watch your screen go black as it goes in soft-standby mode (or whatever the technical term is)
6) after a few seconds (5 orso) release button/open Lid
7) Voila, a perfect X-server

any update on this issue? I am experiencing the same problems and have validated the work-around but that's not really an option for me.

Thanks,
Jeromy

I got an M60 just a couple of days ago, and I'm in the process of getting it to run Gentoo Linux as well as the company standard WinXP load. I found that '4496' went a bit weird on me - screen just got brighter and brighter until I hit the power switch.

However, when I tried updating to '5336' it looks much better. I don't imagine I'm anywhere near an optimal config, but KDE works beautifully and glxgears shows:

14007 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2801.400 FPS

Now I need to enable the external display on my docking station, get the keyboard volume controls to do something useful, and stop it all from locking up solid when the lid is closed...
